Rave reviews and a run of 22 games in goal – Luke Steele could be forgiven for dreading Heinz Muller's return from injury.
Not a bit of it! Barnsley's young goalkeeper insists that he'll thrive on the Tykes having an embarrassment of riches in goal.
Steele has proved a big success since number one Muller suffered a horrible knee injury in January.
With second-choice keeper Tony Warner cup tied, boss Simon Davey signed Steele on a one-month emergency loan from West Brom and the young shot stopper was thrown straight into the limelight with an FA Cup debut at Anfield.
He took his chance, producing a man-of-the-match performance inspiring a sensational 2-1 victory and the rest, as they say, is history. Barnsley went on to reach the semi-finals and Steele proved a massive success in goal.
It was little wonder Davey made Steele's contract permanent following the cup semi-final against Cardiff in May.
Thrown in at Liverpool, Steele triumphed when the going looked tough and now he's facing another battle as Muller recovers from injury.
Steele's starting place is under threat, but the determined 23-year-old wouldn't have it any other way.
"It's brilliant and, to be honest, I love it that there's a really good keeper here," said Steele.
"Heinz played well last season and it's really good for the manager, and for the football club, to have two, well, three goalkeepers involved as young Kyle (Letheren) is doing well too.
"I'm really pleased with that and I'd rather there was someone there to push me. That pressure is good, not just for me but for whoever plays.
"It means that if you have a string of bad games there is someone to come in, but I'm confident and I'm confident in the team."
Muller is likely to play his second game since January on Tuesday when Barnsley reserves host Leeds and Davey will have a selection headache as Muller will only get better and better as he recovers from injury.
Steele had pre-season hamstring and neck injuries but his man-of-the-match display against Derby last weekend shows he will take some shifting.
"I had a few injuries pre-season which were slowing me up," he said.
"The last few weeks I've felt much more like 100 per cent and I can move a lot better.
