After a summer with Jamaica and their World Cup qualifiers, the winger suffered a freak accident at Barnsley's training ground just 48 hours before the season's opener at Loftus Road.

With no other player around him, Campbell-Ryce took an awkward fall and subsequently dislocated his elbow, ruling him out of Barnsley's first few games.

The winger was hugely frustrated by the setback and while Simon Davey and his squad were tackling Coventry yesterday, the 25-year-old was resting his dislocated elbow which is currently in cast.

Campbell-Ryce is desperately targeting September's trip to Blackpool as his comeback game but knows it will do him no good whatsoever being down in the dumps.

"It's not too bad, it's as good as it can be and you've just got to get on with it," he said.

"It was just a bit of a freak accident – it was just me on my own but that's what happens in football.

"It was two days before the first game of the season but what can you do? That's part and parcel of football. I've not really been injured before long term but you've just got to get on with it, get back and get fit and then crack on.

"I think we're talking two to three weeks so it's not too bad, it could have been worse and I'm thinking Blackpool away – after the international break.

"That's September 13 and that would be great.
