Boss Simon Davey is confident that Barnsley's first win of the season against Derby is a sign of things to come.
After four defeats, Barnsley produced a 2-0 win at home to the Rams last weekend thanks to second-half goals from Iain Hume and Stephen Foster.

For Derby it was a 28th league match in succession without a win, piling the pressure on manager Paul Jewell.

Barnsley were not in action this weekend and the club is still awaiting international clearance for Argentinian midfielder Hugo Colace, whose move has been held up by red tape.

However, Davey is hopeful Colace's move will soon be sorted and is in a positive mood after Barnsley's first win of the season.

"We've got three points and we're going to move on from here," he said.

"I'm really pleased for the players because they worked really hard in the first four games but got nothing.

"It was a scrappy game against Derby, but we took our chances when they came and got the rub of the green which we didn't get in the previous four matches."

Davey singled out goalkeeper Luke Steele for special praise for his display against Derby.

"Quite rightly he won the man-of-the-match award and hopefully he can continue in that vein," he said.

Derby boss Jewell, formerly in charge at Bradford City and Sheffield Wednesday, felt that his side's 2-0 defeat was not a fair reflection of the game.

He said: "That's about as well as we've played this season. I'm very disappointed that we've lost, but I'm pleased with the performance.

"We were by far the better team, but we probably didn't have the cutting edge and they scored a goal out of nothing.

"I thought there were some good points, so there is some light at the end of the tunnel."

Jewell also refused to criticise dissenting supporters who made their feelings known at the final whistle.

"This is a huge club with huge expectations and that's something we've got to deal with," he added.

Meanwhile, there were no arrivals or departures at Oakwell on Monday's transfer deadline day but the Tykes will come across one debutant with next weekend's trip to Blackpool.

The Tangerines signed midfielder Alan Gow from Rangers on loan until January 1 and the player is available for selection next weekend.

Also on the move this week was former Tykes player Jon Parkin who has moved from Stoke City to Preston North End.
