Have your say

Hello and welcome to our new weekly column, hopefully giving you a back stage pass into the world of the First Direct Arena.

As many of you will know, the First Direct Arena is a brand new addition to our vibrant city and the first major venue in West Yorkshire of its kind.

The past 12 months have been extremely exciting for the arena team and for everyone across Leeds, the UK and the world, who has shared the experience with us. We’ve brought major international super stars, Bruce Springsteen and Sir Elton John to Yorkshire, we’ve wowed families with Disney on Ice and X Factor, we’ve had a laugh and a giggle with Miranda and Russell Howard and set the stage for the likes of Gary Barlow, Stereophonics and Elbow. Our 2013 ended with a bang for BBC Sports Personality of the Year where we made sure all eyes were on our beloved city of Leeds - rightfully putting us on the map.

After a show stopping first year, we’re delighted to join in partnership with WOW247 to bring you behind the scenes information, exclusive news and the latest happenings from the heart our great music venue.

My team and I am responsible for ticket sales and marketing for all the events that come to the arena and it’s fair to say there’s never a dull day in our world. This week we are starting to prepare our flooring for the arrival of Dancing on Ice and the construction of a large ice rink in the middle of our stage. A crew of a hundred will be involved and will transform our venue into a magnificent ice hall that will feature Torvill & Dean performing the Bolero for the very last time and all your favourite stars including Gareth Gates and Ray Quinn performing their winning routines.

Then it’s time for us to melt the ice and prepare for the arrival of a pop act so powerful, we’re all quite scared! It’s not Busted. It’s not Mcfly. It’s McBusted, an new pop hybrid that is likely to have daughters, mums and grandmas screaming with excitement across Yorkshire - us included.

So, as we keep ourselves busy bringing even more artists to our doorstep, we hope you will enjoy these weekly notes and, make the most of opportunities, announcements and exclusive news across the pages of WOW247. Watch this space Leeds.
