Budding pop star Jack Walton is through to the last 15 of The X-Factor – despite seemingly being kicked off the show a week earlier.

The Castleford wannabe thought his chances were over after being told by former Spice Girls member Melanie Brown that he had failed to make it to the live shows of the ITV talent search during the ‘judges’ houses’ episode on October 5.

However, the 18-year-old was given a second chance when he was handed a ‘wildcard’ to return to the show by fellow judge Simon Cowell.

And the former Castleford Academyl pupil, of Aketon Road, was voted through to the next round after impressing the judges – and the public – with his alternative rendition of Rhinna’s Only Girl In The World on Saturday.

Speaking after his performance judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini said: “Yes, Jack! That was such an amazing song choice. I would never have thought to put a twist on that song.”

Simon Cowell said: “I love that you are honest. The chicks are going to love you. I think it’s a job well done.”

Louis Walsh added: “Simon, you did Mel a big favour by putting Jack through because he deserves it.”

Boyband Overload Generation became the first act to be voted off the series in last night’s results show.
