“I found a new perspective on self-perception,” declare Unwave, an up-and-coming rock trio from Leeds who describe their music as “post-math/hardcore”.
Cue tricksy time signatures and intricate staccato electric guitar riffs.
The vocals are admittedly a little flat but songs such Flicker and Continuation Off Course teem with musical ideas, often shooting off down unexpected byways. There’s some pleasing quiet/loud, slow/fast dynamics too that show the positive influence of bands such as the Pixies, Oceansize and Slint.
The band are already gathering support on the Leeds music scene. Exhale was produced by MJ of Hookworms and mastered by Tom Woodhead, formerly of Forward Russia. They played at the British Wildlife all-dayer at the Brudenell Social Club and have supported seasoned progressive noise merchants Bilge Pump.
Their next step should be well worth following.
