It began with a mysterious spiral symbol that appeared on flyers in bars, gig venues and clubs in several cities, including Leeds, earlier this month.

Then grew via viral image online that was shared anonymously on social media sites into a clandestine launch campaign for a new band who, the YEP can reveal, are from Leeds.

The curious were invited to go to a website called whatisthisband.com, where they were they were were invited to “disappear in space and time, fantasise!” and given the download code: WEARETHEFREAKS.

More is set to be revealed on October 3, when the band unveil their first song.

In the meantime the campaign has reaped some positive feedback.

@Charlou142 said on Twitter: “Band hype done right. Excited and dunno who they are.”

While @4_ever-delayed tweeted: “Dying to know who this is?” @iheartmoosiq wrote: “Def intrigued.” And @Symphoniesblog said: “An inventive way of launching a new band, we must say. #watchout”
