A WEST Yorkshire rapper could be heading for the charts with his new single featuring members of indie bands Athlete and Bloc Party.

Savvy is best known as the frontman of Huddersfield hip-hop group The Savoir Faire, but Powerskills, his latest release, produced by Camp America, includes vocals by Joel Pott of Athlete and guitar by Russell Lissack of Bloc Party.

The rapper explained: “It all started with a random email from Athlete about working on some side project stuff that never actually saw the light of day in the end. But I guess they liked my style and recommended me to a producer call Camp America.

“He sent me the original track and I really liked it! I wrote it and sent them a really really badly recorded demo, but somehow Joel (lead singer of Athlete) dug it and despite the hiss and crackle he invited me to come down to his studio in south London to record.

“When I first heard it I don’t think Russell was on it but by the time I got to Deptford he was and his parts brought the track together nicely.”

Savvy has been making music for more than a decade. His albums include Borrowed Ladder, Play To Win - Volume 2 and The A Loop Theory. He’s performed alongside the likes of De La Soul and KRS One.

Powerskills is available digitally now, with remixes by Masters of None, Noji and Sticky edit.
