Gig review: Menace Beach at Brudenell Social Club, Leeds

The term implies to me, how effortlessly cool they make playing live appear to be.

Touring latest album ‘Lemon Memory’, the band were greeted to a sell out homecoming crowd at The Brudenell Social Club in Leeds.

Menace Beach have the rare gift of sounding even better live than on their already well produced studio work. There is a chemistry in the band and a sense of unity between the musicians that drives the whole live experience.

Drawing songs from both albums including favourites ‘Elastic’, and newer tracks ‘Maybe We’ll Drown’ and ‘Give Blood’, the venue was a feedback fuzz of sweat and passion from fan and band alike.

Menace Beach are Leeds’ new royalty in a scene that has long been overdue a kick up the humbucker. The band has a very bright future and a fan-base akin to the loyalty afforded to The Cribs, a band they supported during the Millennium Square gig last summer.

Catch them at their rawest now, a hungry beast of a band with no sign of slowing down. One day they will be headlining the stage of larger venues, but it’s in the intimacy of venues like the Brudenell Social Club, where real bands cut their teeth and make music history.
