On Sunday December 14 Machine Head came to Leeds for the first time in four years.

The gig was on the back of their 2014 album Bloodstone and Diamonds which is arguably the most epic metal album of 2014.

The Leeds O2 Academy was packed from front to back and the first track was only five seconds in when the flow of crowd surfers started pouring to the front.

This gig really did feel like metal gigs of old. When Machine Head’s biggest influences – Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth – used to compete for the most epic crowds.

There was almost a constant circle pit and when there wasn’t a pit the whole crowd was bouncing.

At every break in the set the Machine Head chants were echoing around the Academy. The full set was two hours long and by the end the fans still wanted more.

Machine Head were just awesome but the metal fans of Leeds were more awesome. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait four years for Machine Head to come to Leeds again.

Gig date: December 14
