Leeds singer Rupert Stroud is cementing his reputation as a musical name to watch with the release of a new EP.

Rupert’s Talk To You EP features four tracks whose powerful choruses have earned him comparisons with the likes of Richard Ashcroft and Elbow.

Coming out on his own Xidus label, the songs are a product of his creative partnership with producer Will Jackson, who has worked with Yorkshire bands Kaiser Chiefs and The Cribs.

Rupert, from Ilkley, has supported a string of top acts, including James Blunt in front of 5,000 fans at North Yorkshire’s Dalby Forest last summer.

He said: “That was incredible. I knew I had to step up to the plate so I decided to go out and act like I belonged on the big stage.

“Everything went right, and the response was amazing. I only knew my 20 family and friends in a crowd of 5,000, but I ended up with hundreds of people queuing to get a CD signed at the merch stall afterwards.

“You try and make the most of those gigs, cos you could be playing in a pub with 80 people the next week.”

The EP’s title track is available to download now on iTunes, with its other three songs due for release on April 12.

Rupert will be launching Talk To You with a show at Leeds’s Wardrobe venue on April 17.
