Leeds-born pop star Corinne Bailey Rae has been invited to be a special guest performer on Lionel Richie’s UK tour.
Bailey Rae performed last month at the Grammy MusiCares Tribute concert honouring Lionel Richie as their ‘Performer Of The Year’, alongside the likes of Stevie Wonder, Dave Grohl, John Legend, Rihanna and Florence Welch.
Starting on June 14, Richie will perform open air concerts in parts of the UK he’s never visited before including St Austell, Swansea, Colwyn Bay, Colchester and Gloucester as well as shows in Sheffield, Manchester, London and Birmingham. Richie’s concerts are renowned for their party atmosphere and audiences will be able to join him in singing along to all the hits from his extensive repertoire spanning decades – all the way from the Commodores to the present day – including classics such as ‘Hello’, ‘Easy’, ‘Dancing On The Ceiling,’ ‘Say You Say Me’, ‘Three Times a Lady’ and ‘All Night Long’.
Richie said: “I always have a great time when I’m in the UK and I’m really pleased Corinne is going to be joining me on tour for these special shows.”
Bailey Rae will release her new album ‘The Heart Speaks In Whispers’ on May 13 which will be her first collection of new material for six years.
She said: “I’ve always been a huge fan of Lionel Richie. His music has soundtracked many moments of my life. It’s an honour to be asked to join him on his British tour.”
The Yorkshire date of the tour will take place at Sheffield Arena on June 22.
