A grandmother received a late birthday card from her friend after it was sent via Tehran.
Win Hopes from Portsmouth did not receive her usual card from former work colleague Audrey Flood, who lives in Yorkshire.

Instead of the card making the journey of around 280 miles it went via Iran in a 6,000 mile trip taking 17 days.

Mrs Hopes, 74, told the Portsmouth News: "My birthday was July 26 and my friend in Yorkshire said she had posted my card on July 23, I couldn't believe it when it arrived two weeks late with a postmark from Tehran."

The card was sent from a post office in the village of Cranswick, East Yorkshire.

The Royal Mail said it had no idea how the letter managed to get sent to Tehran and it said sorry for the delay.
