More used to hurtling through time with the Doctor, the world's most famous police box is to take a leap of a more watery kind with arch enemies Davros, the Daleks and the Cybermen.
Four friends from Leeds have teamed up to build their own Tardis, the time machine that transports Dr Who in and out of many an adventure.
But rather than fighting monsters in deepest space, Bramley's own Doctor – alias Keith Godfrey – will watch his Tardis drop several feet into the water in Hyde Park, London, as part of the Red Bull Flugtag on June 7 in which competitors try out their home-made human-powered 'flying machines'.
Keith is hoping his team, which also includes a Cyberman, a Dalek and a time agent, won't be exterminated by the competition.
The Tardis will be launched from a 20ft ramp on the edge of Hyde Park's Serpentine lake. The watching crowd decides its favourite and the winners walk off with £5,000.
The Leeds team are hoping the TV programme's recent revival will help to steer them to victory, and as far across the water as possible.
Johnny Heath – alias dashing Captain Jack Harkness – explained: "Our mission is to fly the Tardis across space, or failing that...into the lake.
"We will all have a lump in our throats when we see it go in the lake, but our wives and partners are going to have a party – they will be glad to see the back of it."
It took the family men, all in their 30s and 40s, six weeks and several hours every day to build their craft.
Tim Heath made his own armour-like Cyberman costume and a Dalek which will accompany the quartet.
Keith Perigo will be Davros, the king of the Daleks.
Keith Godfrey, will be piloting – and will hit the water along with his beloved police box.
"I was put up as The Doctor because no one else wanted to jump off," he said. '"But it would be the best idea for The Doctor to go with the Tardis.
"It will be the first and last time The Doctor, the Daleks and the Cybermen team up."
The pals aim to sell their costumes on eBay to recoup some of their costs.
The Flugtag competition will include Mary Poppins and a flying trifle. The event is held annually, with similar competitions in 35 cities all over the world
Each flying machine's wingspan is a maxiumum of 30 feet and weighs no more than 450 lbs, including pilot.
Teams are judged on distance, creativity, and showmanship.
