A dog has died in a boat fire in Wakefield.
Firefighters tackled the blaze on the 15ft cruiser at Fall Ings Lock, where the Aire and Calder Navigation and the Calder and Hebble Navigation connect at Fall Ings Road, on Saturday night.
They feared a person was on board, but could not find any sign of its occupant.
Crew manager Alan Senior said when they arrived the whole of the boat was on fire and was drifting down the canal.
"We secured the boat to the bank side and there were several explosions which turned out to be quite a lot of aerosols."
Crews spent 40 minutes putting out the fire, and also had to deal with gas leaks.
After the blaze was out firefighters searched the boat and found a dog had been killed, but there was no evidence of anyone else on board or in the water nearby.
