It's an uncivil war happening in your back garden.
The English bluebell is under attack from its bigger and more profligate Spanish cousin.
This weekend is the ideal time to take a tip-toe through these symbols of spring.
But despite the European invasion there is at least one safe haven of pure, English bluebells in Leeds.
The blooming of the bluebell woods at Lineham Farm in Swan lane, Eccup, is a hardy perennial highlight.
And special needs children from Broomfield School, Belle Isle, Leeds, witnessed the spectacle this week.
Staff at the Lineham's children's centre were worried the recent cold snap would mean they wouldn't arrive in time for the visi.t But the annual Bluebell Day can go ahead this Saturday in which the farm is opened to the public.
A farm spokeswoman said: "These are definitely English bluebells. We keep a watchful eye out for any unwanted invaders."
Visitors can see new animals, enjoy lunch at the farmyard cafe and take part in a bluebell hunt through the woodlands.
Spring has also brought with it a new flock of rare-breed Balwens lamb. Children from Broomfield have been helping to feed the striking-looking lambs which are black with white face and feet.
Lineham Farm is celebrating its 15th anniversary of providing free week-long holidays for children.
The farm only opens its doors to the public four times a year in order to raise awareness of its work and say thank you to its supporters.
Event fundraising co-ordinator Hannah Scott said: "It really gives people a chance to see how the children benefit from their holidays at Lineham Farm and also gives them a chance to enjoy it themselves.
"1,100 deserving local children come for a holiday at the farm every year, and this year we need to raise £100,000 for that to continue to happen."
This year's Bluebell Day runs between noon and 4pm. Entry costs £1.
