The Jamaican superstar, real name Luciano, has been announced as the headline act for the concert this year which is the biggest free black music event in Europe.

Born in Davey Town, Jamaica, Luciano burst on to the scene in the early 1990s and has been one of Jamaica's biggest reggae artists since his 2005 album, Jah Words.

Flying the flag for Britain's reggae scene will be soul star Omar.

A former member of the Kent Youth Orchestra, Omar has been making music for over 20 years, with his breakthrough single, There's Nothing Like This, in the early 1990s sparking a career as a composer, arranger and vocalist.

Former Mobo winner Sway will also be appearing.

The British hip hop rapper and producer has enjoyed great success since launching his solo career in 2003. His debut album, This Is My Demo, helped him win the much-coveted Mobo award for best hip-hop act in 2005, beating American stars 50 Cent and The Game.

These star names will be supported by Busy Signal alongside a host of local music talent.

This year's show takes place at Potternewton Park on Sunday, August 24 from noon to 8pm. Now in its 22nd year, the event will also feature a variety of stalls selling traditional Caribbean food and drink as well as arts and crafts.

The concert will be given national media coverage as BBC 1Xtra will be recording the event to broadcast on Monday, August 25.

City council executive member for leisure Coun John Procter said: "The line-up of performers is exceptional. It should be another great day out."
