CHAPEL ALLERTON first team, weakened this season by the club fielding a side in the National League, are still showing promise in their race to retain the Yorkshire Premiership title.
Team skipper Neil Guirey, who is surprisingly tipping Hallamshire to take the Premiership, says the Sheffield outfit are a team hungry for silverware.

Meanwhile, Chapel go into tomorrow's away match at Pontefract with their leading player Alister
Walker back at first string after some international globe-trotting.

In their latest Premiership clash Chapel Allerton defeated Barnsley 3-2 at home, winning at three, four and five.

Guirey believes Chapel are establishing themselves as a fairly settled side, not making any rash promises but moving along better than some had expected.

Meanwhile Harrogate felt the full force of the side which looks on course to retake the Yorkshire Squash Premiership as they lost 5-0 at home to former title-holders Wigginton.

The Harrogate side, lacking team boss Ian Woodhead who was on holiday, picked up only two points from the clash while their York rivals took 20.

The highlight of the clash came when Wigginton's Peter Billson defeated Gareth Lumsden 6-11 10-12 13-11 11-2 11-1.

Earlier in the match, Lumsden held two match balls before Billson roared back, taking the last two game for the loss of only three points.

The match was watched by David Duncalf, the former team captain at Harrogate, who was impressed by Wigginton's strength in depth.

"With Chapel Allerton concentrating on their National League side this season Wigginton look very strong in the Premier Division," he said.

RESULTS: Chapel Allerton 3 Barnsley 2 (Chapel names first): Steve Siviter lost to Steve Coppinger 6-11 7-11 9-11; Rudi Willemse lost to Darren Lewis 11-8

Harrogate 0 Wigginton 5 (Harrogate names first): Andy Whipp beat Chris Simpson 11-7 11-6 12-10; Peter Billson beat Garth Lumsden 6-11 10-12 13-11 11-2 11-1; Neil Cordell beat Josh Harris 11-2 11-6 11-5; Matt Lowery beat Simon Myring
11-9 11-6 11-3; Chris Gillespie beat Martin Wickenden 11-8 11-5 11-7.

Meanwhile, major changes are being made to the Inter County Premier Squash Championships this season.

Instead of being held mid-term the whole event will be concentrated on May 2 and 3 at a Midlands venue, possibly Wolverhampton Squash Club.

The changes have been announced by England Squash and Yorkshire women go into the event as champions and will be joined by Cheshire, Essex, Lancashire, Merseyside, Notts, Surrey and Sussex.

Yorkshire men, who reached the final stages last season, will be joined by Essex, Herts, Kent, Lancashire, Shropshire, Surrey and Sussex.

Finally, title-holders Garforth have returned to winning ways in Division One of the Kall-Kwik League with a 3-0 win over Otley. Captain Alex Tait, Neil Thackray and Darren Taffe were the Garforth winners.
