One-time strugglers Huddersfield achieved their best win in the Yorkshire Squash Premiership when they defeated former title holders Wigginton 3-2.
The stunning victory underlined the progress the Huddersfield side has made in the past few seasons.

Two years ago it would have been unthinkable that Huddersfield would win the match, but a quiet revolution has turned the West Yorkshire side into a force to be reckoned with.

While Wigginton retain their place at the top of the league Huddersfield are now closing in on the leaders.

Huddersfield took 14 points from the match while the York-based side were restricted to just eight.

David Hymas, the Huddersfield team boss, was elated with the win and reminded opponents that his team has a match in hand on key rivals.

"It's just tremendous that we have beaten Wigginton, who won the championship two years ago," said Hymas.

By the time the top strings went on court the match victory had been signed, sealed and delivered as Huddersfield clocked up three straight successes.

Off court, there was united disappointment for both teams when it was announced that Huddersfield's Eddie Charlton and Wigginton's Neil Cordell would not be available for the match with international events looming.

Meanwhile, Harrogate put a spring back in their step as they defeated Barnsley 4-1 in their Yorkshire Premiership clash.

Victory for Harrogate meant they avoided a hat-trick of narrow defeats.

The Barnsley chop win earned Harrogate a healthy 18 points, keeping them in mid-table, as their South Yorkshire rivals continue to find life tough in the top-flight.

Harrogate team boss Ian Woodhead was a man in a hurry in his match, polishing off Matt Sagar by three games to one in just 16 minutes.

Guernsey's Chris Simpson, who was at first string for Harrogate in his second season at the club, found few difficulties in conquering James Snell, while Josh Harris and Simon Myring both won in three games.

In his victory, Myring dropped only 12 points in the whole match.

* Favourite Simon Parke from Harrogate was forced to pull out of the UK Squash Grand Prix at Manchester with an achilles injury in the quarter finals.

Parke, coaching professional at Heaton, Bradford, had 9-11, 11-5, 10-2 scorelines in his favour when he had to retire injured against Peter Billson (Wigginton).

Meanwhile, Harrogate player Chris Simpson won praise for his fine form at the tournament.

Despite being seeded eight Simpson reached the semis where he lost 8-11, 11-7, 8-11, 9-11 to England's Andy Whipp.
