YORKSHIRE’s County Championship match against Hampshire at Headingley is petering out into a draw.

At tea on the final day, Yorkshire are 149-7 In their second innings, a lead of 289.

The hosts lost three wickets in the afternoon session, captain Andrew Gale caught behind off Chris Wood for 46, Jack Leaning bowled by Will Smith for 18, and Adil Rashid caught in the slips by Smith off James Tomlinson for 22.

At the break, Liam Plunkett has nine and Steve Patterson one.

There was a faint chance at lunch of a positive result if Yorkshire were bowled out quickly, which might have opened the door for either side, but it was soon erased by a steady stand between Gale and Leaning, who added 73 in 27 overs.

Gale played some nice strokes during his 97-ball innings, particularly through the offside, while Leaning offered useful support.

Hampshire have continued to bowl well in the sunny conditions and will be well-pleased with a share of the spoils after being outplayed during the first half of the game.

Tomlinson has been the pick of the attack, his figures reading 3-31 from 16 overs.

Hampshire: Carberry, Alsop, Vince (captain), Smith, Dawson, Ervine, Wheater, McLaren, Wood, Tomlinson, Edwards.
