“I’m not interested in uni just yet,” said Fisher, who is in his final year of A-levels at Easingwold School.

“I’ll just see what the next few years brings and see what happens from there.

“I’ve still got my school commitments, and I’m counting down the days really until I finish in June.”

Fisher, who is studying psychology and PE, looks a genuinely high-class prospect.

He received his introduction to County Championship cricket last summer, when he made three appearances that brought him five wickets.

Overall, he impressed everyone with his skill and maturity.

Fisher also played 13 games in the T20 Blast, taking 16 wickets at 22, including 5-22 on debut against Derbyshire at Headingley. He has also played 13 List A matches, the first of them against Leicestershire at Scarborough in June 2013 when he became, aged 15 years and 212 days, the youngest post-war county cricketer.

“There’s healthy competition in the seam department, and it’s my job to push the lads for a place,” he said. “You never know when an opportunity will come, and maybe one-day cricket is going to be a big part for me hopefully this year. The most important thing is that I’ve got the backing of everyone, which helps you to go out and play with confidence.”
