Wigton Moor Junior AFC: £4,280 to coach girl footballers

Girls' soccer will benefit from a £4,280 grant to Wigton Moor Junior FC.

The money from the Football Foundation, the UK's largest sports charity, will enable the north Leeds club to place qualified

coaches into primary schools.

They will run lunchtime and after-school sessions for girl footballers for the next three years.

The youngsters will then be able to attend follow-up sessions at the club ground which is off Harrogate Road near the Lord D'Arcy

pub.

There are currently 100 girls playing in eight teams at Wigton Moor.

The Football Foundation awarded the club over 400,000 some five years ago to build a new clubhouse.

Its chief executive, Paul Thorogood, said: "We warmly congratulate Wigton Moor JFC and the West Riding County FA for their hard work and dedication in securing this award."

Howard Bowden, head of girls' football at Wigton, said: "Hopefully, this will be the first step for some girls on a lengthy and active involvement in the game."
