Victory eases relegation fears
A convincing victory at the weekend has helped North Leeds C.C. 2nd team's battle for league survival. Read match report here.
Knowing victory was desperately needed to aid our bid for survival in the top flight, skipper Mark Singleton got us off to the best possible start when he won the toss and invited Harden to bat.
The wicket was the usual batting paradise as is always the case at The North but it didn't take long for opening bowler Amir Farooq to find the edge of the bat, sending one half of Harden's opening pair back to the pavilion.
Barry Singleton then came into the attack, taking three wickets in his first three overs without conceding a run.
Fadi Lak had originally opened up the hill with no success, however, a change of ends bought more control and success for our most consistent bowler this season. Regular wickets fell and some sound fielding restricted Harden to 111 all out in the 38th over.
All 4 NLCC bowlers bowled well, Fadi finishing with 3 wickets and Farman Iqbal taking the last 2 Harden wickets with his first 3 balls to finish the innings.
The North Leeds reply was swift and, at times, brutal. Opening pair Tim Hales and George Wales set up victory with an opening stand of nearly 50. George was out LBW for single figures, bringing Steve West to the crease who scored 19 runs in no time before departing.
Barry Singleton also came and went cheaply but Tim Hales saw The North home, scoring 80 not out from only 57 balls. Victory achieved with 43 overs of the game remaining and the clock just ticking over to 5pm.
We are now 10 points above our relegation rivals with two games to play.
Hopefully another good result this coming Saturday against Bilton, who have slipped below us in the table, will mean we can relax and enjoy the final game of the season in two weeks time.
