Victory puts Avenue back on play-off track

Bradford Park Avenue sparked life back into their play-off push with a 3-1 Premier Division victory at Worksop.

Matthew James netted on 16 minutes to set Avenue on their way, Christopher Hall doubling the lead eight minutes later.

Daniel Bacon hit back for Worksop on 68 minutes but a Stephen Downes penalty two minutes later sealed Avenue's win and moved them up to seventh.

Guiseley lost ground with a 2-1 loss at Kendal Town, for whom Alex Taylor bagged a brace. Craig Bentham grabbed Guiseley's last-minute consolation.

Ossett Town remain in the mire after a 7-2 loss at high-flying King's Lynn, Kevin Ryan netting a brace in vain.

Whitby Town fared better with a 2-1 victory at home to Stocksbridge Park Steels, Andy Campbell netting a 90th-minute winner. Mark Ward gave Stocksbridge the lead before Liam Gildea equalised.

In First Division North, FC Halifax Town needed a James Dean equaliser to salvage a 2-2 draw at Skelmersdale United.

Steve Payne's 35th-minute penalty had Halifax in front before strikes from Ryan Wade and Kyle Armstrong, just before half-time, edged the hosts ahead.

Harrogate Railway also had a 2-2 draw, at home to Radcliffe Borough. Dan Thirkell gave Rail a 26th-minute lead but the home side eventually needed a Zaphiah Thomas leveller 15 minutes from time.

Garforth Town endured a miserable afternoon, losing 6-2 at high-riding Curzon Ashton despite a strike from Tom Greaves and an Adam Jones own goal.

Ossett Albion were also hammered, losing 5-1 at home to Clitheroe, for whom Andrew Naylor hit a hat-trick.

Gareth Hamlet's 44th-minute strike had brought Albion level at 1-1.

Wakefield FC also suffered a home reverse, going down 1-0 to Bamber Bridge courtesy of Paul Robinson's 21st-minute winner.

Goole AFC fared better in First Division South, thrashing visiting Spalding United thanks to a Michael Goddard hat-trick and Glyn Cotton strike.
