Ups not Downes for Avenue

BRADFORD PARK AVENUE kept up the good work in the UniBond Premier Division with a 1-0 win at Boston United on Saturday in front of 1,212 fans.

Stephen Downes won the contest with a 44th-minute spot kick to keep high-flying Avenue's promotion quest very much on track.

Ossett Town had few home comforts against Whitby Town who took a 3-1 victory with goals from Andy Campbell, Andrew Leeson and Ged Dalton.

Andy Lee's 18th-minute effort had put Town back level 1-1.

In the First Division North, Harrogate Railway also refused to lie down at Prescot Cables, twice equalising to take a gutsy 2-2 draw. Paul Stansfield's goal and a Ben Jones penalty gave Rail' a point.

James Dean hit a hat-trick as FC Halifax Town hammered visiting Salford City 6-1.

Nick Gray also added a brace with Richard Marshall also on the scoresheet.

Garforth Town lost 3-1 at AFC Fylde with Milton Turner's 90th-minute spot kick a mere consolation for the Miners.

Shane Kelsey also struck a penalty in vain, his effort from 12 yards part of a brace which earned nothing as Ossett Albion lost 3-2 at Chorley.

Wakefield lost 2-1 at home to Trafford and were trailing 2-0 when Chris Howarth hit home a 75th-minute penalty.

In First Division South, Goole AFC took a 2-2 draw from their trip to Cammell Laird. Micky Goddard's penalty put Goole in front and after Cammell twice hit back, Adam Green's 73rd-minute strike gave Goole a point.
