Temple AFC U-12's 4

Glen Junior U-12's 2

Date: Sunday, October 14

Competition: Garforth Junior Football League, Division 4

Temple started the game at top speed and good passing build-ups saw Tom Gordon and captain Matty Hayward both make credible shots on the Glen goal in the first few minutes.

Then followed a cross from Tom Gordon which skimmed across the Glen goalmouth, sadly without a finishing touch from the Temple forwards.

Next, after another fine passing movement Matty Hayward fired inches wide of the target. The game then settled into a fairly equal contest with both teams opting for the long ball tactic for about 15 minutes until, following a Glen attack which was only partially cleared from a goalmouth scramble, Glen took the lead with a scrappy goal.

Five minutes before half-time, Temple 'clicked' and a superb fast-passing build-up involving several players ended with Matty Hayward scoring his first Temple goal to equalise. The score remained level 'till half-time.

Early in the second-half, Matty Hayward repeated his goalscoring act with 'a scorcher' which clipped the underside of the bar as it went in from a very tight angle and left the Glen keeper with no chance.

Glen responded almost immediately when a high lob beat new Temple keeper, Nathan Simm, to bring the scores level again. Matty Hayward almost scored his third as, from a similar build-up, his shot struck the side-netting. The Temple strike force which was dominated by Jack Cooling, descibed as "having a blinding game" and the excellent passing

strike partnership of Connor Yates and Matty Hayward pressed hard to regain advantage. In defence Ryan McGregor once more showed his class and partnered by new boys Mathew Ellis and Connor Crawford ensured that keeper Nathan was not seriously troubled after Glen's second goal.

In the final 10 minutes with the Glen defence tiring, Charlie Jenkin alertly fired in after the Glen keeper had spilled a shot from Lewis Catterill and that was quickly followed by Ross Marshall pushing home from another scramble in the Glen goalmouth, first Temple goals for both players, and Glen were sunk.
