Borrowed boots, a hat-trick and a saved penalty. There is never a dull moment watching Temple AFC U-12s. Read their latest match report here.
Temple AFC U-12s 4
Wortley B U-12s 1
Date: Sunday, November 11
Competition: Garforth Junior Football League, Under 12's Division 4
Level on points at the bottom of the Division both teams desperately needed to win this match to keep up with the mid-table teams.
Things didn't look promising for Temple when top goalscorer Ashley Walker had no boots to play in. Thanks to a mad dash home by parent Dave Drysdale. The "borrowed boots" appeared and the striker took the field.
Some key Temple players looked tired and had a quiet game, good job others were on fire. Temple quickly tested Wortley when Tank Wooffitt turned sharply and fired close from inside the box.
On ten minutes Ash Walker tested his "borrowed boots" with a shot from outside the box which easily beat the Wortley goalie. 1 - 0. He tried the same again a few minutes later but this time his weaker shot was shakily gathered by the Wortley keeper.
From the opposite flank, Matthew Hayward battled into the box and smashed a shot into the side-netting. Minutes later he tried the same again, this time on target and the Wortley keeper couldn't hold the shot, palming it into the goal. 2 - 0.
In the Temple penalty area Declan Isaac, more clumsily than malicious, bundled into a Wortley striker and a harsh penalty was awarded. Temple keeper, Natham Simm, dived brilliantly to his left and saved the
penalty clearing the ball up-field. But with some Temple players still congratulating Nathan on his save Wortley returned the ball to the Temple box and a simple goal was scored. 2 - 1 and another lack of
concentration.
After the break Ash Walker tormented the Wortley defence and soon latched on to a beautiful through pass from Jack Cooling to fire home his second goal. 3 - 1.
In the Temple box another penalty was awarded when an awkward bounce struck a Temple player's arm. This time the Wortley penalty kicker struck the base of the left-hand post and Temple defenders reacting
quickly cleared the danger. That was the last serious attack from Wortley as the ever confident Ryan McGregor, ably assisted by fellowdefenders, snuffed out every Wortley effort.
Wortley were finally killed off when "borrowed boots" Ash Walker struck a terrific goal, to complete his hat-trick, from a fine through pass from Declan Isaac. 4-1 final score and Temple move into 5th place in the League table.
