Temple AFC U-12s dominate play in latest victory
Temple AFC U-12s beat Harehills Place in their latest Garforth Junior League game after dominating play for long periods.
Harehills Place U-12s 1
Temple AFC U-12s 3
Date: Sunday, November 18
Competition: Garforth Junior Football League, U12 Division 4
Temple started on fire and within the first 10 minutes had missed numerous chances to go in front with great work from midfielders Tom Gordon and Azzi Bell being squandered by strikers hitting wide or high.
Temple survived a scare when, following a Harehill's player injury and the ball being kicked from play, Harehills sportingly kicked the ball towards the Temple keeper.
The kick didn't reach the keeper and so was helped back by a Temple defender to be picked up by the
keeper. The ref blew for a back-pass and awarded Harehills a free-kick inside the Temple box. Fortunately the defence held and attack after attack resumed on the Harehills goal.
Many more chances were missed before Ash Walker, quiet until then, latched onto a Tom Gordon through-
pass and fired home the first goal. More chances were missed and then Ryan (Tank) Wooffitt made amends by converting another fine Tom Gordon pass.
The third goal came from a great cross, from Ash Walker on the right, missed by Tom Gordon and falling to Charlie Jenkin who calmed slotted home. Half-time 3-0.
Substitutions at half-time changed the shape of the team and although the substitutes themselves performed well the shape changes allowed Harehills more space and they began a gallant fight-back.
Still Temple continued to squander chances with efforts from Tank Wooffitt, Ash Walker and Declan Isaac all either going wide or being saved by a brave keeper. Too many times the final pass was delayed
causing forwards to be caught off-side.
Finally Harehills scored a consolation goal when a miss-kick, a slow defensive response and a fumble by the keeper allowed a Harehills striker to nip in and score.
Final score 3-1.
Temple should have buried this game with at least a dozen goals missed and the 3-1 scoreline does not reflect their overall supremacy.
