Colton Juniors U-15s put seven goals past Rothwell for a second time in less than a fortnight.

Rothwell B U-15s 2

Colton Juniors U-15s 7

Date: Sunday, November 25

Competition: Leeds & District

On a cold grey day in late November Colton travelled to local rivals Rothwell for the reverse fixture of less than two weeks ago.

Rothwell were still smarting from a 7-3 defeat to Colton on that day and were set to make amends at their home pitch with a hastily arranged 'local ref' after the league official had dropped out.

Colton started with the usual 4-4-2 formation as it had worked well in all but two of this season's 11 games.

Early pressure came from Rothwell but Colton responded and good interplay between Josh Gould and George Walker releasing James Hazelgrave for the first attempt on goal.

With that Rothwell responded with a swift attack of their own with Sam Rudd having to make an excellent saving tackle.

Rothwell then had two successive corners and were pressing hard with Adam Hamblett having to save well for Colton.

Colton then sprung an attack of their own with James Hazelgrave neat pass finding James Green and he finished with aplomb 1-0 to Colton. Rothwell then responded with direct play and an equaliser, 1-1 and Colton had been caught.

With the Colton captain Sam Rudd & Dalton Fotherby once again excelling in the centre back positions there was little opportunity for Rothwell to make in roads into Colton's goal area.

They were well supported by the rampaging wing backs of Matt Young and Lewis Tyas with the central midfield duo of Sam 'Blondie' Parker and George Walker tackling everything that moved.

The afore mentioned Sam Parker setting up Josh Gould just after the mid way stage of the second half and 2-1 to Colton. Rothwell then went down the other end and hit the Colton upright.

This was quite quickly followed by yet another George Walker pass to James Green and then onto Ben Craven for a great strike and 3-1.

Colton were in the ascendancy and half time could n't come quick enough for Rothwell. Colton then appeared to have finished off yet another sweeping attack with the goal in the back of the net but the referee disallowed it for an earlier push.

Colton weren't about to let dubious refereeing get in their way and with Sam Parker starting and finishing an exquisite move and 4-1 to Colton.

Half time arrived with Colton having had most of the possession and the score was 4-1.

Rob 'The Cat' Hamblett and Nigel 'aka McClaren' the trainer did held their usual tough talking but encouraging half time team talk and Colton ran out on to the pitch fully briefed. (Green shorts & Yellow tops).

The second half started with a flurry of Colton attacks, one which landed at James Hazelgrave's feet and he finished with his usual clinical finish. 5-1 to Colton and things were going well.

James Hazelgrave then opened play up and passed a neat ball to James Green who ran free down the left wing and yet another goal 6 -1 to Colton.

James Green and James Hazelgrave had scored 19 and 22 goals respectively and it was only half way through the season.

The introduction of the utility backs of Sam Bateman, Harrison Brazier, Ronan Whittle and the Ryan White brought a fresh approach to Colton. Rothwell pressed play and Colton keeper Adam Hamblett pulled of a great save after having little to do.

It wasn't too long before Dalton Fotherby drove straight through the middle of the park and set up a neat move to Ryan Brogdan who then scored an excellent goal. 7-1 to Colton and they were taking Rothwell to pieces.

Ryan White, Sam Rudd and Matt Young continued tough tackling to ensure Colton didn't let Rothwell back in to the game.

With James Hazelgrave, Josh Gould and Ryan Brogdan all proving a handful in the final third of the field it was going to be tough for Rothwell but they managed a consolation goal right at the death and the score finished 7-2 to Colton.

The game was a hard fought encounter and one which the referee appeared to give a fair number of dubious decisions but Colton were too strong. Colton's fitness and team work continues to improve and the second half of the season should result in some real rewards in Cup and League competitions should the current form continue.

Next weekend's fixture list is as yet unknown.

Squad: Adam Hamblett, Sam Bateman, Sam Rudd, Dalton Fotherby, Lewis Tyas, Josh Gould, Ryan White, George Walker, Ben Craven, James Green, James Hazelgrave, Ronan Whittle, Harrison Brazier, Matthew Young & Sam Parker.
