Serena finished third in the Ladies Marathon behind Russian and Mexican competitors.

The tough race, which Serena finished in 3:33:38, was held in trying conditions and saw many competitors in both the ladies and men's races fail to complete the course and/or collapse with exhaustion, making Serena's achievement all the more remarkable.

Turkey was not the first time Serena had represented her country at a major championships for the deaf, having previously run in the European Cross Country Championships in Portugal in 2006 where she also won a Bronze medal as part of a successful Great Britain ladies team.

Horsforth Harriers chairman, Gordon Little, said: "Everyone at Horsforth Harriers is delighted with Serena's success and we are so proud of her, and happy if, as a club, we have helped to contribute to her outstanding achievements."
