Veteran prop MacDonald heads Leeds Carnegie exodus

Fourteen players will move on from Leeds Carnegie this summer but coach Diccon Edwards has revealed: “We have retained every player that we wanted to for next season.”

Leeds will end their Championship campaign at home to Cornish Pirates tomorrow with a third-placed finish in Promotion Pool A the best they can wish for – not enough for a semi-final spot.

A whole host of players will be leaving Headingley Carnegie including Mike MacDonald, Lee Blackett, Scott Barrow and Tom Denton as part of a major shake up but Edwards says a stack of new recruits will follow and is in positive mood.

“We have used 60 players this season in all competitions and inevitably in professional sport there will players who leave the club at the end of each season,” said Edwards.

“However we are pleased to have retained every player that we wanted to for next season.”

Also leaving Leeds are the experienced trio of Sean Hohneck, Lachlan MacKay and Michael Stephenson plus Robbie Shaw, Halani Aulika and Ed Williamson.

Gareth Denman, Alex Rieder, James Tincknell and Dan White are also heading out of the exit door.
