Leeds Carnegie have confirmed that former Wales international Rhys Oakley has decided to exercise a release cause in his contract and will leave the club after 137 appearances since joining in 2007.

Oakley was under contract for the forthcoming season however he had until the start of this week to confirm whether he would exercise the release cause.

Oakley, 30, said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Leeds and made many friends. However, I have an opportunity to play in a different competition with a longer term contract and I am now looking forward to my next challenge.”

A Crowdfunding page in honour of Brooke Firth has already raised more than 4,000.
