LEEDS CARNEGIE: Fa'afili not ruling out early debut
Henry Fa'afili is hedging his bets over the prospects of making his bow for Leeds Carnegie against Gloucester on Sunday.
The Samoan try-machine only arrived in the UK last Sunday from Auckland after his visa problems were finally resolved and has been busy acclimatising following a long flight and acquainting himself with his new team-mates and their style of play.
But training has gone well and the former Warrington rugby league winger isn't ruling out making his debut this weekend.
Fa'afili said: "It's not up to me, it's up to the coaching and the medical staff.
"We'll have to see how my body is, coming off a long flight. But I've started training and come through all right, so we'll see how things go for Sunday,
"Whether I do or don't play, it will be nice to catch up with Lesley (Vainikolo) and there's a few others that I know at Gloucester as well.
Fa'afili has been busy contacting family members for news in the past few days following this week's tsunami in the Pacific, which has affected both Samoa and American Samoa – and is keeping his fingers crossed that all is well.
"My parents are in New Zealand and have been trying to get hold of my cousins, aunties and uncles," he said. "Fingers crossed, they will be okay.
"It's a tragic moment and my prayers and thoughts go out to everybody in Samoa.
"I heard about it on the news and rang up home straightaway to see how everything is and to get some news on family members."
