Leeds Carnegie have received a major boost ahead of their Championship clash with Nottingham at Headingley Carnegie with the signing of centre Jon Clarke from Aviva Premiership side Worcester Warriors on loan.

The former Heineken Cup finalist has started more than 100 games in the Premiership.

He has joined Leeds Carnegie on loan for the remainder of the season and will be in contention for the squad that travels to Plymouth Albion next week.

Clarke, aged 30, who has played for England Saxons, joined Worcester at the start of the 2012-13 season from Northampton Saints. He played a total of 165 games for the Saints and scored 32 tries.

Clarke said: “I am excited to be joining up with the lads and starting the new year with Leeds Carnegie. I am looking to show what I can do and earn a place in the squad and help the club’s drive to reach the play offs and challenge for promotion. I wasn’t able to force my way in at Worcester so the opportunity arose to come to Leeds and I was more than happy to join the club.

“I came up and had a look around and everything is here for the club to be a success. As soon I met with James Lowes, Tommy McGee, Chris Gibson and Sir Ian McGeechan, I was impressed with the vision there is for the team over the next few years.”
