SINFIELD: Shock wins are good for the game

All the close results and shocks we are seeing in Super League are great for the sport.

When summer rugby started the salary cap was devised to produce a competition where anybody can beat anybody else.

If you look at other sports, like the Premier League, you pretty much know who's going to win, week in and week out.

It's similar in the Guinness Premiership and to some extent you can still predict Super League, but it is getting much more difficult to call.

That shows how far teams have come and how level the competition is.

All teams seem to be struggling at home this year. Six of the seven games last weekend were won by the away team.

If you ask any player or coach, they'll talk about it just being a piece of grass, but there's probably not as much pressure when you are away from home.

You take an army of fans with you but they are the die-hard fans, who follow you come rain or shine, no matter what.

At home, the majority of people who turn up are a bit more demanding in what they expect.

They want to be entertained and I can understand that, but it adds a bit more pressure and you can feel the disappointment when things go against you, like they have for us a couple of times this year.

I think sometimes that can have a negative effect on a team, whereas when you go away the pressure can be off a bit.

That said, we enjoy playing at Headingley Carnegie and we want to give our home supporters something to cheer about.

We've lost the last three at home, including the cup game, so we'll be looking to put in a big performance on Tuesday night.

Hull is always a big game and they usually play well against us. Both sides have had extra time to prepare, so hopefully it will be a great match and we can pick up two points.

Last Friday's game at Castleford was one of those that everybody will remember for quite a while.

I've probably played in similar rainy conditions as an amateur, but not since I joined Leeds. I've played in snow and on frozen pitches, but not when the rain was coming down as hard as it did at the Jungle.

everybody who turned up should be congratulated, especially the guys behind the sticks with no shirts on. Good on them.

just to get a game on in conditions like that was good work by everybody.

I've been asked why I didn't celebrate when I kicked the winning penalty goal. At the time I was delighted to get the two points.

We hadn't won there for five years and it was a good win, especially with us being down to 15 men for 70 minutes. We came through after a fantastic defensive effort.

But I thought it would have been disrespectful to carry on at the end. I've been on the other end of situations like that and it's not nice.

Cas put in a massive effort and it was tough for them to lose in that manner.

I was more relieved than overjoyed. When you get a kick from the sideline not many people expect you to land it, but it's different when it's close to the posts.

in those conditions, any kick was tricky, so it was a relief to get it through the posts and to get the points.
