Late Batley Bulldogs rally delights boss Kear
An opening 22-16 Northern Rail Cup win at Keighley Cougars gave new Batley Bulldogs boss John Kear plenty of positives.
Cougars will be among Batley’s rivals in the Co-op Championship and Kear said: “It was a tough game, both teams played well to say it was the first competitive game of the season.
“It wasn’t the prettiest of games, it was a real slog-fest, but we defended well and finished better.
“We were 16-4 down with just over 20 minutes to go but scored four tries in the last 20, three of them in the last 10, so that was pleasing.
“They showed a real belief in each other and commitment and desire to win when we were behind the black ball.”
Bulldogs picked up one injury, Johnny Walker going off with a back problem, though Kear is hopeful he will be available for Sunday’s visit of London Skolars.
