Ferres agrees a new deal with the Tigers
BACK-ROWER Brett Ferres today committed himself to Castleford Tigers for the next three years.
The former Bradford forward signed a three-year deal when he joined Tigers from Wakefield last November – but that included a get-out clause after his first season.
Ferres has now told the club he is happy to stay – and he has agreed a new, extended contract which will keep him at Tigers until the end of 2012.
"I was very happy to join my home town team in the close season and equally happy to commit myself to the club for another three years beyond this year," said 23-year-old Ferres, who has scored eight tries in 18 appearances for Tigers.
He added: "I have really enjoyed my first term at Cas.
"At our best we have shown we can match most teams in the competition and we are still in the hunt for the play-offs this season.
"I'm pretty happy with my own form this season, although you are always looking to improve. Everything tells me that the club is moving in the right direction and I want to be part of that."
Tigers boss Terry Matterson described Ferres' new deal as "very good news for the club".
He added: "I am personally pleased that Brett has committed himself to the Tigers.
"I have been very impressed with his efforts since joining the club, he is very professional in everything he does and I'm sure he isn't too far away from a recall to the England squad."
Ferres was a Tigers fan as a youngster and had a spell on the club's scholarship before joining Bradford.
He had two seasons in Bulls' first team, then joined Wildcats for the 2007 and 2008 campaigns.
