Defence is necessary form of attack for Fev
STRONG defence will be the order of the day for Featherstone Rovers when they square up to improving visitors Gateshead Thunder tomorrow.
Thunder are second-bottom in the Co-op Championship, but stunned title favourites Halifax with a 34-28 victory last week.
"It will be a challenge for us, certainly defensively," warned Rovers coach Daryl Powell.
"They are a team with a lot of attacking flair.
"They are very dangerous with the ball in their hands, but defensively they open up a bit – though they've been improving in that area under (coach) Steve McCormack.
"I'm confident we can score points, but it's a matter of being able to handle them with our defence."
Rovers are fresh from an impressive 32-16 win at Toulouse and Powell added: "Consistency's the big thing for us.
"This year we've had a couple of periods when we've gone really well, then we've had a dip and got belted.
"We can't let that happen this week – we've got to be really solid."
Powell hopes to welcome back Jon Steel after he missed last week's victory due to a hamstring problem.
Tony Tonks and Richard Blakeway have also been placed on stand-by after impressing in the reserves.
