Cas will bounce back – Terry

DEFIANT boss Terry Matterson is adamant Castleford Tigers' club record defeat won't ruin their season, writes Peter Smith.

The 76-12 drubbing at Leeds Rhinos four days ago was the heaviest in Tigers' history, eclipsing the 72-4 home loss to St Helens three years and one day earlier.

The setback was a massive shock for Tigers, who had lost only 24-22 to Rhinos – to a last-gasp penalty goal – earlier in the campaign. But Matterson insisted today: "There's no use dwelling on it.

"We are better than that, we've shown that on a lot of occasions this year – you don't win four in a row otherwise.

"We know what we can do and we have got to put it behind us.

"It is not a situation we haven't been in before.

"It was the third big score put on us this year – twice by St Helens and once by Leeds – and it's not nice at all.

"The boys had a tough weekend – and I know I did – but we have got to get up and turn things around quickly."

Tigers are back in action on Sunday, when Wigan Warriors visit the Jungle.

"What we do next is most important," Matterson said. "If we do a good job and get a good performance against Wigan, last week will be quickly forgotten."

Matterson is "confident" of getting the right response, but he admitted: "The players have got to do it. If they can't bounce back from that, the rest of the season is going to be a bit of a worry."

Winger Kirk Dixon (quad injury) is expected to return against Wigan.

Added Matterson: "I am pretty sure Brent Sherwin (who has been out since May with a foot injury) will be available, though we've got to get him through another week of training first.

"Hopefully Richie Owen (ankle) will be back too, but it's not about what people we put on the field. Whatever 17 I go with, they are going to speak for themselves."
