Former New Zealand international Kevin Locke has had his claim for unlawful deduction of wages by his old club Salford heard by a Rugby Football League independent tribunal.

Locke was released by the Red Devils last month after tendering his resignation but claimed he was still owed money by the club, an allegation strongly refuted by owner Dr Marwan Koukash.

The former New Zealand Warriors full-back’s case was presented by his Leeds-based lawyer Richard Cramer at a day-long hearing at RFL headquarters in Leeds before being adjourned to a new date yet to be set.

Locke is now with Wakefield Trinity Wildcats but currently sidelined by a shoulder injury.

Meanwhile, Leeds second rower Stevie Ward has been ruled out of Friday’s Ladbrokes Challenge Cup semi-final against St Helens after failing to recover in time from an ankle injury.

However, Rhinos coach Brian McDermott has recalled centre Joel Moon after he sat out last Sunday’s Super League win over Catalans Dragons with a minor Achilles problem.
