Leeds Rhinos v Featherstone Rovers: Burrow hails special night INTERVIEW

Man of the moment Rob Burrow celebrated a “special night” as Leeds Rhinos ended their pre-season programme in style.
Rhinos ran in 11 tries – all converted by Lee Smith – as they thrashed Featherstone Rovers 66-0 in Burrow’s testimonial match last night.
“It was a great hit out,” said Burrow, pictured with daughter Macy, who was among Rhinos’ try scorers. “It was a major one for us and we are pretty happy with it.
He added: “Personally it was a great night. I have been a Leeds fan since I was seven and to have played 10 years here is unreal. I have loved every minute of it and tonight was a really proud moment.”
Boss Brian McDermott insisted he wasn’t concerned at having such a comprehensive victory just two weeks before their first Super League match.
“Absolutely not,” said the Leeds boss. “It happened quite often in Super League last year, those scorelines. The fellas got out of it what they needed, they looked cohesive.
“Some of the things they did defensively I was very happy with and offensively we were sharp. It had little to do with the opposition. They are a good team and a competitive team.”
Leeds’ win was marred by an injury to 20-year-old hooker Liam Hood. He scored one try and set up another before being helped off late on.
McDermott said: “It’s not looking great. I’m not sure if he has snapped, broken or twisted anything. Obviously he has done some damage there, but I’m not sure of the extent.”
Rovers coach Daryl Powell felt his players let themselves down. He said: “I thought Leeds were outstanding all across the field and we were pretty poor all across the field.
“The difference in class was obvious, but I don’t think we did ourselves justice. I am pretty disappointed, but we don’t play against Leeds every week – which we are pretty pleased about.”
