Leeds Rhinos: Senior to produce ‘Owen Hargreaves-style’ video EXCLUSIVE

Veteran centre Keith Senior will produce an “Owen Hargreaves-style” video in a bid to prove he can still play at the highest level.

The 35-year-old is without a club after being released by Leeds Rhinos following a serious knee injury last year and following the collapse of a proposed move to Crusaders.

He has been offered a pay-as-you-play deal by Rhinos and has spoken to several other Super League clubs, but accepts he will need to prove he is fully fit before anybody will take him on board.

Injury-hit former England footballer Hargreaves signed for Manchester City after placing a video of himself working out in a gym on the internet.

Senior has undergone major surgery to reconstruct his knee and to clear up an infection after rupturing anterior cruciate ligaments in a game last May, but is determined to play on.

He said: “I am not going to be fit for the start of the season, so I have said I’ll put all negotiations on hold until I get myself back to full fitness.

“Then I am going to do an Owen Hargreaves-style video to prove I am fully fit. Things are going to change, players are going to get injured. Rather than just signing for anybody now I will bide my time and make sure I am fully fit when I come back.

“The Leeds offer is still on the table and I have been talking to them, like I have a few other clubs. Because of the injury I’ve had – and my age doesn’t help – I can understand clubs being a bit cautious, so it is just a case of proving myself.”

Rhinos have offered Senior – who holds the Super League records for most tries and appearances – a job for after he hangs up his boots and he revealed: “I am still getting physio from Leeds, which I am thankful for.

“I am down there every day, getting physio and going to the gym and I am doing plenty of re-hab.”
