WIGAN WARRIORS boss Shaun Wane reckons tonight’s hosts Leeds Rhinos deserve the praise they are getting.

Rhinos are the only team left in contention for the triple of Ladbrokes Challenge Cup, league leaders’ shield and Super League title and Wane said they have been the most consistent team this year – despite two defeats to his side.

“Leeds are the best team,” Wane said.

“They were outstanding last week against Warrington and they are getting a lot of praise.

“I thought Eddie and Stevo [Sky TV’s commentary team of Eddie Hemmings and Mike Stephenson] were going to go in the South Stand at one stage.

“But quite rightly so.

“They are very, very consistent, they are playing a fantastic brand of rugby and I want my team to go there and I want us to compete.

“I want us to give them a game and if we do that, I’ll be happy.

“They were impressive – unstoppable – last week, but if we go there and we’re competitive and we throw things at them, we’ll give ourselves a chance not to lie down and get beaten like Warrington did.”

Wigan moved up to second in the First Utility Super-8s table, two points behind Leeds, after a 30-22 home win over Huddersfield Giants eight days ago.

Wane said: “We played okay. “We weren’t outstanding, but it was one of those games where we just had to get the two points.

“That was the main focus. In terms of the performance, we’ve had a lot of meetings this week where we’ve tried to correct a few things and hopefully those things will come out against Leeds.”
