Leeds Rhinos wait on fitness of Brent Webb
Leeds Rhinos are facing an anxious wait to learn if star full-back Brent Webb will be available for Saturday's trip to Hull.
Webb suffered a neck injury early in the second half of the 33-20 home win over Bradford Bulls three days ago.
Coach Brian McClennan today said the injury is not related to the back problem which kept Webb out of last year's engage Super League Grand Final and New Zealand's triumphant World Cup campaign.
"It is still very tender," said McClennan. "We are going to have to see how he progresses though the early part of the week.
"We aren't going to know until the middle of the week as to whether Brent will be right for Saturday.
"We have got to let it settle down, but we are keeping our fingers crossed."
The coach added: "He has jarred his head sideways, which has hurt his neck. It's very painful and very sore.
"These things can clear up quickly, but other times it can be a couple of weeks.
"We don't know at the moment, but fans shouldn't worry – it is nothing to do with what he had before, it is a separate injury."
McClennan said Rhinos came through last Friday's game with no other injury concerns.
Second-row Ian Kirke is facing two months out due to the fractured leg suffered at Les Catalans Dragons last month.
The leg is in pot and physio Meirion Jones said: "The specialists have advised us that Ian has suffered significant damage to his ankle ligaments.
"They will require time to heal correctly and then we can work on a programme to get Ian back to full fitness."
Meanwhile, McClennan is expecting a big finish to the season from scrum-half Rob Burrow, who set up one try against Bradford and scored a sparkling solo touchdown.
"He was good," McClennan said. "Rob has had a couple of injury concerns this year, but he is back in and he's playing well.
"He had about three weeks off with a quad injury, but he's getting better all the time. He is so quick and dangerous and his passing game is improving.
"Rob will get better as we go on. He is going to peak soon."
* RHINOS' Academy side were beaten 44-30 at Bradford Bulls, despite tries by Jake Normington, Brad Singleton, Jack Carvill and Tom Carroll, plus five Ryan Gaunt goals.
