some of rugby league’s greatest players will get together at Headingley later this month to launch Leeds legend Garry Schofield’s testimonial.
Schofield has been granted a three-month benefit by the RFL to mark 30 years’ service to the sport. The former Leeds and Great Britain centre and stand-off, who turned 50 this month, is holding a Hall of Fame dinner in the Premier Suite at Headingley on Thursday, July 30.
He said: “It is a unique event, with so many of the surviving members of the Rugby League Hall of Fame. Alex Murphy will be there and he is possibly the greatest player Great Britain has ever produced. Neil Fox is the greatest points scorer the sport has ever had or will have and Lewis Jones will be there. Older Leeds fans will say he is the best player Leeds have ever had. Billy Boston is coming and his try-scoring record speaks for itself. From my era, we’ll have Malcolm Reilly, who the Aussies say is the best English player ever to play in their competition and The Pearl, Ellery Hanley. If I could choose one player to have alongside me, it would be Ellery. Martin Offiah, the greatest try scorer in modern times, is also attending, so it should be a great night.”
The event, hosted by Leeds chief executive Gary Hetherington, will include a question and answer session with the Hall of Famers, plus three-course meal and raffle. Tickets cost £45 per person and can be booked by calling Headingley Experience on 0113 203 3899.
