VISITORS HULL KR will be “full of confidence” when they run out to face Leeds Rhinos tonight.
Since a 60-0 drubbing at Wigan Warriors earlier this month, they have crushed Wakefield Trinity Wildcats 54-6 and gained revenge with a 16-14 Cup win over Wigan a week ago. Coach Chris Chester said: “We’re expecting another tough game. They are the in-form team and they had another good victory at the weekend against Huddersfield, so they will be very tough and very physical, but we go in full of confidence, like every other game.”
Last Saturday’s Challenge Cup win over Huddersfield Giants was “the real Leeds”, according to the Rovers coach. He added: “They are very unpredictable with the way they play. They base their game a lot around off-loads and have a lot of very good, exciting outside-backs they get the ball to early.
“We really need to be good defensively, but I think over the last couple of weeks we’ve taken some strides forward in that department. It’s always very difficult against Leeds as they are unpredictable with the way they throw the ball around, but we have to focus on ourselves. We took a couple of steps forward against Wakefield and a giant leap last week against Wigan defensively and we need that same attitude and desire to get a result.”
Chester said Rovers will take heart from the opening round of the season, when they led 30-16 against Leeds, before going down 40-30.
“We were unfortunate with couple of bounces of the ball that went against us, but it was a long time ago. We’ve improved since then and we are looking forward to it.”
