LEEDS RHINOS will need to be much better in Saturday’s crunch Magic Weekend showdown with Wigan Warriors, veteran half-back Danny McGuire reckons.
McGuire, who was man of the match in Rhinos 36-16 win over Hull KR, feels they can take heart from their second-half defensive effort, but admitted other areas of their game need to improve.
“It was a tough battle,” the veteran No 6 reflected.
“In the first half I thought we were off the pace and credit to Hull KR, they turned up with the right attitude and put us under a lot of pressure in the first half.
“We were a little bit disappointed with that, but we showed a lot of determination to turn it around in the second half.
“We managed to keep them tryless in the second half, which was a goal and I thought we played some decent stuff with the ball in hand.
“A few lapses of concentration cost us in the first half, but sometimes you have got to win when you’re not performing at your best.”
McGuire admitted the four tries the visitors scored before half-time were “disappointing”.
He said: “They were a bit too easy and we were a bit too soft at times, across the board. We need to fix that up a little bit.
“Hull KR have got a lot of dangerous players and they showed a lot of desire to play well.
“We had to pick it up a level in the second half and we did that.”
