HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS back Aaron Murphy is expecting a bruising encounter at Leeds Rhinos tonight.
“It is a local derby between two teams expected to be up near the top of the league,” he said. “You can’t expect anything else and I’m sure we’ll definitely get it.
“We know it’s going to be tough. Leeds are a top team and we should be as well, so it’s a big game.”
Giants’ start to the season has added to that. They were stunned 19-0 by Hull in First Utility Super League round one and lost their second match 24-16 at Wigan Warriors, after going into the break 16-10 ahead.
Murphy – who was on Rhinos’ scholarship and supported the club as a youngster – said: “It is a big game for the team, with how we’ve been playing.
“We’ve had two bad performances, so we need to fix it up this week. We fixed a few things up against Wigan that we didn’t do so well against Hull and now we’ve had two weeks of preparations so we really need to be putting in a good performance against Leeds.
“Preparations have been good, we’ve had some rest time and we’ve trained day on, day off so it has freshened us up. We also had plenty of time to fix things up, we’ve had some intense training sessions and we’re looking pretty sharp in training.
“We’ve had two losses so we could have done with going into game and trying to fix things up straight away, but we’ve got to do that (tonight) now.
“We’ve had time to think about it, review it and fix things up in training.”
