Arona, a 26-year-old prop or second-row, played under Wildcats boss Brian Smith at Sydney Roosters, from 2011-2013 and he said: “Reuniting with my first NRL coach makes this move even more exciting for me.

“I have played some of my best football under the guidance of Smithy and I’m looking forward to improving my game with him as my coach again.”

Meanwhile, Hawks have signed utility-forward Craig Robinson from Doncaster on a 12-month contract.

Robinson, 30, has been a regular for Doncaster since joining them from Oldham in 2011.

Hawks director of rugby Darren Williams said: “Craig is a great addition to our 2016 squad.

“He has a lot of experience playing at this level and his attitude and commitment make him a model professional.”
