Oldham 24 Hunslet Hawks 23: Sloppy Hawks throw it away

Hunslet blew a golden chance to be the first team to win at promotion rivals Oldham this season.

With 10 minutes left they led 23-16 but seemed to lose their way after prop Michael Haley and Oldham’s George Tyson were sin-binned for fighting in the 68th minute.

All they could muster after that was a long-range drop goal by Thomas Coyle, as Oldham won it with late tries by second-row pair Danny Langtree and Josh Crowley.

Earlier, man-of-the-match Jimmy Watson scored a try and set up others for Lee Brickwood and James Houston, while the impressive Danny Grimshaw scored Hawks’ only first-half try with a delightful dummy and shimmy close to the line. Andy Ballard landed three goals.
